Studies Challenge Bottled Water

Consumers Look For Drinking Water Alternatives

Phoenix, AZ August 20, 2009--Recent reports citing the questionable quality of bottled water along with its negative impact on the environment have consumers confused. Many people turned to bottled water as an alternative to drinking from the tap, but they were surprised to learn in a recent U.S. Congressional report that the Food and Drug Administration has little authority to regulate bottled water. Additionally, the Environmental Working Group, a nonprofit advocacy group, recently surveyed the labels and Web sites of nearly 200 popular bottled water brands and found that less than 2 percent disclosed three important facts that can affect safety: the water's source, purification methods and chemical pollutants in each bottle.

Municipalities do a lot to safeguard the water's quality and are required to publicize reports showing water test results. Many consumers, however, find the maximum contaminant levels unacceptable and prefer to drink something besides their tap water. But, according to the reports, people could be spending hundreds or even thousands of dollars a year buying bottled water that is of lower quality than the water coming from their taps.

There are several drinking water options for those looking for tap and bottled water alternatives. Many faucet-mounted filters, pour through pitchers and refrigerator filters are designed to only handle taste, odor and chlorine removal. They fall short in convenience and do little to truly improve the water's quality. Other systems, like reverse osmosis, go well beyond eliminating taste, odor and chlorine and remove a host of other contaminants that can be in water. For a convenient, economical and sustainable alternative to tap and bottled water, look to a product certificated by independent testing laboratories like NSF International.

The Kinetico K5 Drinking Water Station uses reverse osmosis to provide made-to-order drinking water right in your home. The system, developed by Kinetico Incorporated, a leader in the water treatment industry, raises the bar by removing more contaminants than any other NSF certified drinking water system on the market. The customizable and expandable K5 Drinking Water Station has an interchangeable, five-cartridge filter design, which allows consumers to choose from nine available cartridges; each solving a particular water quality issue based on their unique water treatment needs. It also provides faster flow rates and higher production rates than any comparable drinking water system.

"More and more people are trying to kick the bottled water habit. Bottled water is expensive, in many cases of questionable quality, and it's taking its toll on the environment," states Mike Mattox, General Manager of Kinetico Quality Water. "Many of our customers are looking to a purification system like the K5 Drinking Water Station to take care of their drinking water needs."

Kinetico Quality Water has been serving the water treatment needs of the Phoenix area for more than 30 years and selling non-electric water softeners, whole house filters and drinking water systems.
